Senior citizens already getting Social Security benefits will be automatically enrolled in Medicare.
A Medicare card shows whether the person has coverage of Part A and Part B.
Part A is premium free while for Part B you may have to pay a monthly premium.
Everyone who is enrolled in Original Medicare will get a red-white and blue Original Medicare card. This card is to be shown while receiving Medicare services. Original Medicare card is to be kept safely to prove your Medicare eligibility.
Medicare Part A is premium free health care insurance to all those people of age 65 or above already receiving Social security benefits. When you attain 65 years of age you automatically get Medicare Part A and Part B services. You have to pay higher premium (10% more)if you are not eligible for premium free Medicare Part A and did not join Medicare Part A when you were eligible.
Medicare Part B can be joined by paying monthly premiums. The premium for Part B may be standard for every month. Social security will inform you if you have to pay excess amount than the monthly standard premium. You may have to pay higher premiums if your income is high and it changes every year. You must sign up for Part B as soon as you are eligible otherwise a late enrollment fee is charged by the Medicare insurance company.
You pay for Copayments, coinsurance and deductibles which may apply on each of the above services
If you are covered by Medicare Advantage Plan like a HMO or PPO or supplement insurance (Medigap policy), the cost may differ.
It may cost less or may not cost you for the Medicare services, if the doctor, supplier or the provider has signed an agreement with the Medicare services to accept the approve amount by Medicare as fees towards the services. This type of agreement is called an Assignment.
From January 2011, most of the preventive services are offered free if you go to the doctor or the hospital who accepts assignment.

You must file all your claims in one year’s period in which you undertake the service.
You must call your doctor or service provider and ask to file a Medicare claim. If the doctor or service provider fails to claim and does not claim when you ask for it you can call 1-800-4227.If still there is no response and you are completing the period of claim acceptance then you can file the claim on your own by taking a print of the form and completing it. The form is available on the website cms.hss.gov in CMS forms section. You must read the information there on how to fill it.
